Alternative Medicine

Altertnative Medicine Online

My name is John Richards and I have created this web site to provide practical and real information on alternative medicine and treatment options. I am a very pragmatic individual who has been very skeptical of any alternative methods of treatment. I am an electrical engineer by background with an MBA. What I have found in searching for alternative medical treatment information on the web is a lot of hype and crazy testimonials.

A plethora of exaggerated claims and misleading information has only added to my skepticism. Furthermore, information that is reality-based or personality driven can easily become too personal, complex and unrelatable, that the average person may not follow it. Simply put, I believe in measurable, quantifiable results, not hype. As a result, I have created this web site which contains basic, practical information and tips about some of the proven alternative treatments and medicines currently available. I have attempted to organize this information under titles such as "Top 10 Things You Should Know".

I would like to spend one minute on what has brought around a change of heart regarding alternative medicines. As mentioned earlier, I am a pragmatic businessman. I would never have believed that I would have even considered using alternative medical treatments in my personal life. However, there have been 2 significant events that have brought me to this point in my life.

A brush with Torticollis

Several years ago I had a son who was born with Torticollis. Torticollis is a condition where the spine is kinked to the side, looks awkwardly placed, and can be very, very painful. As my new born son grew, his condition worsened and he was in obvious pain every day. He could not lift his head, he could not crawl or walk; he simply was not thriving. We took my son to medical doctor after medical doctor, all who said "he will grow out of it" or "radical surgery is required!" We regarded them as senseless solutions followed by a long, painful and difficult recovery. Needless to say, my wife and I were distraught.

After the 12th Dr. visit one of my employees came to me and said "You are going to think I am crazy, but you really need to try taking your son to this chiropractic doctor that specializes in children. His comment was: “really you have nothing to lose." He was right, I had no other options. With that I set an appointment with this crusty gruff old chiropractor. I walk into his office, arms crossed and bristled with defiance at his very word.

Upon seeing the condition of my son, the Doctor gets tears in his eyes and says "don't you DARE let them cut this beautiful child open."  He stated he could have my son aligned, normal and walking within 3 months of treatment. My skepticism dropped only long enough to challenge him to prove out his statement. As a father, I desperately wanted to lower my guard and produce a glimmer of hope.

Well, to keep the story short, the Doctor was 100% WRONG! He had my son walking and completely normal with in 2 weeks.

The first treatment that day freaked me out. He put my son on the bench, and jerked his little head and neck as the kid screeched. As soon as he did this adjustment my son shook his head, straightened up and smiled at me. Right there, in front of my eyes, I could see an INSTANT effect. With each treatment he got better and better, and within 3 months my son was 100% normal. Crazy I know, but I could not deny it.

The second story was very similar and involved my wife.  She was in a bad car accident as a teenager and has regularly complained of a sore back and neck. Several weeks ago, she got so sore she literally lay in bed whimpering for three days. She could not walk, she could not bend over, she could not sit in a chair. After 3 medical doctor visits and a scheduled MRI to look at the damage to prepare for surgery, which is what all the doctors recommended once again, we decided to try another reputable chiropractor.

It was a laborious process of x-rays and education. This chiropractor required that we not only get the pain relieved, but signup up for 1 year of treatments to ensure that the problem did not re-occur. Under somewhat of a pressured awkward discussion, we finally agreed to begin the process, knowing the alternative was surgery with a terrible recovery period and very expensive doctor fees.

Well the outcome was very similar to that of my son’s. Immediately after the 1st treatment, much of the pain was resolved; she could bend over and begin functioning.  She still has a little soreness, but has improved each day. The story is not over because she has committed to a year of treatments, but I will keep you posted via the blog on how she is doing.

I guess the long and short of this is, I am forced to examine and consider various forms of alternative treatments as valid medical options. To that end, I am going to frankly and honestly discuss various forms of Alternative Medical treatments on this site. I would welcome your comments and opinions.
